Bathurst Dec 12-14 Intro. Course & 16-20 Intermediate Course

Information

Intro Course
Connecting & Fundamental Feel in Ground Skills Course.

Three full days to immerse yourself in learning the philosophy and techniques of “Connecting with  Horses and Riding with Synchronicity”. This Ground Skills course is the most important of  all the courses I teach. It sets the foundation of concepts and principles from which all the rest is built. It is essential for all who are new to my teaching and whether you are a beginner or had years of experience I believe it will be of great benefit to you. This course will begin to teach you how to understand horse’s minds, emotions and their physical bodies.  This course teaches the core principles of centering, breathing, body scanning, energy awareness and body language which are all essential keys to success with horses.  Begin the journey to becoming a “true” horseman. “True” meaning with the qualities that the horses themselves would choose to have in a horseman. Whilst we acknowledge and work with the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of horses this course is very practical. Teaching a quality of FEEL in horsemanship handling that most people never learn in a life time. FEEL  is the HOLY GRAIL of horsemanship, it is the fundamental essence of all great horsemanship. Some believe that it can never be taught but I have found a way. Here is what you can learn at this course:-

Connect with your horse’s heart and mind and hear what horses have to say. Learn to listen.

Learn the principles and qualities of great leadership

Learn the art of nonverbal communication – thoughts, energy and body language

Learn how horses learn

Learn the ever elusive and commonly unteachable qualities of FEEL – mental, emotional, physical and energetic feel

Develop safe horse handling skills and habits on the ground. Learn techniques and body yields – to help horses use their bodies with correct biomechanics

Come along with or without your horse. Of course if you can bring your horse along your learning will be maximized as nothing beats hands on experience and having direct feedback from a supportive instructor to accelerate your learning. However the other option for attending these courses is to come and participate without a horse, in which case you would actively participate in all of the theory sessions, Q & A sessions, body awareness and balance sessions, healing sessions and simulations as well as  watch the demonstrations and observe those with horses practice and experiment with the exercises and tasks. All of these “non-hands on” with horses sessions actually make up a big percentage of the course which is why the pricing for those  wishing to come without their horse is approx. 50% of the full course fee. People coming without their horses are not just fence sitters. They get equal value to those bringing horses for at least 50% of the course.

Investment

The cost to come with your horse is $595 for the 3 days. The cost to come without your horse is $80/day or $240 for 3 days.

Start & Finish Times 9:00-5:00  ( Unless it is really hot – in which case we may take a longer  break in the middle of the day and go later into the evening)

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a raw beginner and/or feel very unconfident or unsafe in handling or riding your horse please contact me before registering and booking into this course with your horse. No stallions without prior permission.

Intermediate Course

Prerequisites –  Participants in this course will have needed to have previously attended an Introductory clinic with me or on some occasions, people may request permission to attend by submitting a video of themselves working with their horse on the ground and riding. Please email me for details regarding this.

What will you learn ?

The course format will be very flexible. Because all students attending with horses will already have a basic foundation in my horsemanship principles  the format can be adapted to suit the individual needs and priorities of the horses and humans that show up. We will spontaneously flow with what each horse and human needs to help them progress to the next level.

Some examples of major focus areas are usually :-
Develop a deeper connection with your horse by learning how to become more still, present and centered and by noticing and helping alleviate any stress, anxiety or tension in your horse.

Become aware of the subtleties that indicate the physical and emotional holding patterns that are preventing you and your horse having the safe and harmonious relationship that you would both love to have. Learn to better read (more correctly understand) your horse and what is going on for him or her mentally and emotionally.

Develop your quality of physical and energetic feel and awareness.

Learn to understand your horse’s physical body and how it operates – biomechanics for healthy happy horses. This is the next step to building connection and developing a harmonious partnership with your horse.   If your horse is not comfortable physically and able to move with effortlessness and ease, which is the result of healthy biomechanics, he or she is never going to really enjoy physically doing things with you. Helping your horses to develop healthy biomechanics  and good quality movement comes from developing these qualities in yourselves. If you don’t know what it feels like in yourself to move with freedom and ease, with structured alignment and unification, then you can never offer this feel to the horse and in fact, you will probably end up taking these qualities away from you horse. This learning will also benefit all other areas of your life. Living with pain, discomfort and restriction, where moving is anything other than pleasurable, is not fun.

Below are a some of the more specific things that we often address and outcomes that result from the intermediate level courses:-

Both you and your horse develop confidence which means safety and better performance.
Read and understand your horse more accurately.
Deepen your Connection with your horse and develop more accurate intuitive communication.
Your horse becomes more calm, connected, attentive, responsive and athletic.
Develop Feel, Energy awareness and how to use energy.
Become clear  and more precise with Body Language.
Understand how horses learn
Learn about Positive Reinforcement
Use ground skills as a diagnostic tool and for your horse’s emotions and  as physical therapy for your horse.
Use obstacles to create visually clear mental pictures and “games” to help your horse learn.
Put ground skills to purpose eg. trailer loading, crossing bridges, creeks etc.
Learn about posture, self carriage, balance and biomechanics for both the horse and rider and how to enhance these through ground work and riding.

Learn how to better “go with” your horses movement, that is, how to flow with the horse in perfect harmony.
Ride from your centre with a unified body.
Refine your aids, by using your body more and the reins less.
Help the horse to better follow your focus and line of direction.
Learn exercises to improve rider balance and learn more details about riding dynamics including trot diagonals and canter leads.
Develop more HQ engagement and collection in the horse.

Learn body awareness, body balancing and meditation techniques to clear emotions, heal, move more freely and fluidly and empower yourself  – mentally, emotionally and physically.
Learn bodywork and horse care practices to improve your horse’s physical health and well being as well as improve and develop their physical capability, athleticism and performance.

Private lessons, Saddle fitting & BALANCE saddles, Bodywork sessions – Dec. 15th & possibly in the evenings after each day of the course.

balance2Saddle fittings and opportunities to test ride the BALANCE saddles are available on request. Saddle fittings sessions take 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. and cost $165.  They involve riding in your own current saddle and experimenting with padding arrangements and or adjusting gullets if possible to see if  we can improve things with your current saddle. We then test ride a BALANCE saddle to use as a comparison to get feedback about how well your horse moves in its own saddle compared to a saddle that is known to be ergonomically designed  for horses and riders. If your horse did prefer the BALANCE saddle and you were possibly interested in purchasing one, we would then test ride several different models of the BALANCE saddles to see exactly which one is the best for both horse and rider. Interlaced into this is advice on riding and biomechanics for horse and rider as required and as appropriate to the level of experience of the horse and rider.

Private Lessons are $120/hr
To get more details, to book a saddle fitting session or private lesson, please email me –  mel@melfleming.com.au or call 0428 385 745.  Letting me know as soon as you can if you are interested in one of these sessions will help me schedule things to make sure I can fit you in.
